"Sections" of projects only to Compressor?

Hello, soldiers,

It doesn't seem to be possible to sequester with I and O pieces of a project (timeline) and send ONLY that to Compressor. Does one have to cut and paste the section to a new project to do it? The discretion to isolate parts of the project is available in Compressor when the entire thing has been sent there, but that is a bore.

Can anyone answer?

Thank you.

I believe many of us had submitted that capability as a feature request to Apple. Fill out the feedback form within FCPX and add your request for it.

Or send to to Compressor and set In/Out points there for encoding.

as mentioned you have to send the whole sequence to compressor and set the in and out to export from there.

in theory it should work beautifully - but the problem is its horribly broken, and takes ages to find the right frame as compressor struggles to go back and forth between your instruction and checking with FCP X and then back to compressor again.

apple should have prioritised this over multi cam in my opinion. its a basic but very major fundamental fault in their otherwise very elegant NLE.

As you mention, the only way to do it is cut and paste to a new project or export the whole timeline and feed that into compressor instead. Which when you think about it, is pretty bloody stupid.

A way I do things is to Duplicate the project in the project viewer, cut up the duplicate, then send it. fast and leaves the master free. I sometimes do three/four teaser edits or chapter edits for delivery to iTunes and the like

If you know before hand you're going to be doing this, I'd create a Compound Clip in the Browser, do your edit in that. Then you can duplicate that Compound Clip right in the browser, and just delete what you don't want.

Another option is to do as above, but when you duplicate the Compound Clip, make them Auditions. Yes, you can make Compound Clips into Auditions, if you need to show these in FCP X to a client at your edit bay.
