Typical troubleshooting routine. Get "Preference Manager" free from Digital Rebellion to delete pref files for both FCP X and Motion 5. Run Disk Utility and "repair" all drives ("verify" is a waste of time). Run Software Update and check the Mac App Store to be sure all your software is up to date.

If you're running off an external drive, be sure it's formatted as Mac OS Extended Journaled.

Yes, just don't trash for any other app, and NOT for the that thing called "Shared files" or shared something. But for FCP X and Motion 5, sure, go for it, perfectly safe. The apps create new ones from scratch if they launch and don't find them, which is the point. To get rid of possible corrupted pref files.

I did have an error in my hard drive . I would like to thank you for guiding me to run a quick repair but that did not fix it. The error was on my part where I didn't have the permission to read and write on any folder is it was only read. Ugh! I did repair my hard drive thanks.

"Permissions" is not an error, but a configuration issue.

What exactly happened? What exactly did you do to fix your problem?
