Transitions from White to Any color other than black

Hi Everyone,

I am new to final cut pro x and I wanted to be able to make a transition from white to any other color other than black. I know it is simple but can anyone direct me?

If you mean at the beginning of the program put a white custom generator at the end of the timeline and cross dissolve from the white generator to your picture.

It is one video clip and I split the clip to add a white transition to grey but it keeps starting from black transition. I really want it to start from a white transition.

I'm sorry I don't understand what you're trying to say. If you want to go to white between two clips use the fade to color transition and set the color to white, or use the flash transition.

Hmm let me see if I can explain it clearer... It is a basic motion graphic video and it is mainly in black color (not really important) but I cut the clip in two parts and I want the transition which fills the gap to go from white to a color like grey (could be any color but not black). After the grey transition, the video will continue.

This is the bit I don't understand. The clip is black you said. How is it white? How are you getting from the black to the white? You can use a transition. You can put in a colored generator and transition between the clips and the generators. You can also use a transition that goes to an intermediate color, the fade to color transition and make the color anything you want, like gray.

Hmm thank you very much. The issue I am having is everytime I apply the cross dissolve transition between my video, it keeps fading to black then white. I really don't want it to fade to black but fade to white then return to the video. Do you have any video tutorials on this bu chance? I am understanding what you're saying but I may not be able to implement the things without you showing me step by step (if possible).

I think what you can do is place a white background at the end of the first clip section. Then apply a dissolve transition from your clip to the white background. Then place another colored (or grey) background next to the white background. Apply a dissolve from the white background to the colored
background. Then place the second part of your clip next to the colored background and apply a dissolve from the background to the clip.

If I got this right, the sequence when played back will be:

Clip section 1 - dissolve to white - dissolve to color - dissolve to clip section 2.
