i-phone footage & timecode

i-phone footage & timecode was created by parkerhqj
I have a job that includes hours of I-phone footage for B-Roll. The clients want to select the footage we use themselves to save money. They don't have professional editing software. The I-phone - from what I can gather - doesn't generate timecode. The only thing I could think of is to have them import all their footage into I-movie, do their selecting there and export the selected footage as QT files. I can then import them into fcpx. Does that make sense? I thought of advising them to install fcpx and use that, but I think the learning curve wouldn't really be worth their while. Ideas? thx

It's easier than that. Image Capture is an app that comes on your Mac, in your Applications Folder. I will offload photos and movies directly from an iPhone, iPad, camera card, etc, directly to where you want it on your hard drive.
Open the clips in QuickTime X Player (10.1). Place the playhead at the start of the section they want, Cmd-Y to Split the clip (in the Edit menu, too). Place the playhead where they want to end, Cmd-Y. Select the head and tail sections and hit the Delete key to remove them. File > Export, done!
Much easier workflow to learn than iMovie or FCP X for a client.

It looks like Image Capture has to be hooked up to an i-phone. I don't know if the files have already been transferred. Would it matter?

Yes, Image Capture is how you get the files off the iPhone onto the Mac for editing, thus, it has to be connected. Yes, the movie files have to be on the Mac to edit them.
