Importing iPad IMovie to FCPX

This may sound strange, but I have a friend that just completed a 15 min. iMovie project an iPad with iMovie and I was wondering if there is a way that I could take the iPad iMovie project and import it into my FCPX setup.

I've imported iMovie projects to FCPX without problems a few times. How could I import an iPad iMovie project to FCPX.

Thanks.
James

Tom, couldn't you send your iPad iMovie project to the "desktop" iMovie, then go from there?

I was wondering also if I could export to iMovie then to FCPX.
There has to be a work around somewhere. I must be missing something.

Can you do that?

I don't know. I thought, though, you could export your iMovie projects from the iPad to the "big" version.

<a few minutes later>

Seems you can:

Transfer your iMovie project to your computer and compatible iOS devices

cgbier, I think I can export a .mov file from the iPad and then to FCPX, but what I was wondering is if I could export a project from the iPad iMovie ti FCPX. Not only the final video file.

I maybe be asking too much.

... wait ... I just saw your last message..

I will look into this now.

You can import your OS X iMovie project into FCP X. The question is if you can transfer your iOS project to OS X iMovie. Seemingly, you can.

Does anyone have an iPad handy?

Wow!

Worked 100%! However, the help file in the iPad iMovie is not up to date.

First send project to iTunes.

1. From the iPad iMovie opening screen, press the share arrowed button. Then select iTunes.
From here, the project selected will be exported to a file on the iPad to later sync to iTunes.

Import a project from iTunes.
2. Connect the iPad, then, go to the App header on the right-top. Go to the App window, and select iMovie in the app list below file sharing.
3. Click Add, and in the window that opens, file the file you want to add.
4. select this file.
5. Now open iMovie and go to the File >Import>iMovie for iOS Project... Now, import to iMovie
6. From the iMovie tap go to Share >Export Movie. Select size to export. Then, export.
7. Exit iMovie ... Open FCPX.

In FCPX:
8. Go to File> Import> iMovie Project.. import.

This should also work with the 4S.

Check transitions and you're done!

Sorry I caught this thread late, but, yes, I've been doing this a LOT since FCP X first came out. I even use the iPad camera capture adapter to get the footage off my DSLR into my iPad.
