Plugin Request for Magnifying eyes was created by youngeddie
First, thanks to all of the very kind and talented people that make and give away your wonderful FCPX plugins. It's really fun to download them and use them in my projects.
I'm wonder if there is a plugin that will magnify the eyes in my movies to create a surprised expression. The expressive eyes would be very cool.
Thanks, Eddie

I would imagine that there might be an arguement for doing this in Photoshop. I have taken small segments of movie files (2-3 seconds) into photoshop and done clean up and filter work using the photoshop tool and filter pallete and it is superb and really will leave people wondering how you did that. If I can find a web tutorial later I'll post it as it's a wee bit tricky to write, far easier to see.

Creating history....one edit at a time !

It might be fun to experiment with creating a mask of the image, cutting out the eye sections and then scaling them slightly using keyframes. May have to do some blending to make it look realistic but it sounds like it could be a fun project. Also, importing those clips to do it in Motion would probably be better. It's on my rainy day list to play with

I saw Larry Jordan doing something a few years back in Glasgow but I only have written notes on that. Good luck and have fun

Hi Lee and dgwvideo,
Thanks very much to both of you for responding to my post.
Lee, I looked at the link you sent over, and video was very good. I will give Photoshop Extended a try and see what I come up with.
This forum is amazing!!! Thanks so much for your help!!
Sincerely, Eddie
P.S. dgwvideo, if that rainy day rolls around, I'd love to see what you come up with too!

I had a little play around with this last night.
I got some pretty good results with an effects template, still photo on the drop zone layer, 2 clone layers above for the left eye and 2 for the right.
I put a circle mask on the top clone layer to cut out the eyeball. I put another mask around the eye brow and lower eye region to show that region with a hole in it on that layer. The outside mask is heavily feathered.
I added the "Disk Warp" effect, with very low/subtle values and got some surprisingly good results on the flesh and outer eye.
The layer in the middle is then scaled to fit the iris to the hole.
Rigging this to set up automatically, for any individual photo, will be easy enough. But to be used on long shots, close ups, different faces etc. needs a bit more control on the editors end. Then for tracking/rotoscoping video any NLE interface really isn't good for operating the effect.
I got the impression that it's just best done in Motion or After effects, but I'll give a little time every now and again and see if I can get a way to make it work sensibly in FCPX. It has me curious.

Wow... This is great. I'd love to see a sample of what you've done so far. And it would be great to see how things develop over time.
Thanks so much for taking this on. I'm really looking forward to following your progress.

No problem Eddie, but I only finished 1 eye. When I get a little spare time over the next day or 2 I'll do the other and post before and after pics.
