Is it safe? I'm currently having a lot of problems with FCPX 10.03, Compressor 4.0.2 and Lion 10.7.2 Compressor takes forever and I was hoping the latest Lion update fixed a lot of the speed issues. FCPX 10.0.3 seems to be fairly unstable as well.

I am using Lion 10.7.3 with FCPX 10.0.3 and the latest versions of Compressor and Motion. While I haven't necessarily noticed any stability improvements with Lion over 10.7.2, I haven't really had any problems with all these apps running much differently than they previously did.

There are some quirks with FCPX and a lot seems to be related to user error as much as program bugs ( I speak from my own experience), but you can find a lot of workarounds and better methods for dealing with fcpx on this site.

Using 10.7.3 with no Issues. I often find Compressor is way slower than using FCP because it doesn't use all the cores. The only way around it I can find is to use virtual clusters.
Sometimes ticking "this computer +" works sometimes not.

I wish Apple would update Compressor properly so that you didn't have to use Qmaster.

Thanks for the info. I've got The latest fcpx with compressor 4.0.2 on a Snow Leopard partition and I find it less buggy and a hair faster. In Lion 10.7.2, compressor would say "1 hour 30 min remaining" for about 6+ hours. That's rendering a H.264 Podcast preset 640x480 from a ProRes LT clip about 1 hour duration. Also I can't get a virtual cluster to finish successfully in lion, Would fail between 30-50% completion.

I have a fix for my exports. For now I will use Adobe Media Composer until they fix Compressor. I normally prefer compressor, but version 4 is way to slow and buggy. Adobe Media Encoder takes about 1/4 of the time and the time remaining estimate is almost dead accurate.

Running a 8 core mac pro 2.8 Ghz with 6 gb of ram. FCPX and motion and after effects run very fast. Even Compressor 2 & 3 were very fast. Thinking back, when fcpx first came out last June, compressor 4 ran ok. But the first update seemed to break it. I would even have issues with Compressor starting up, and before 4.0.2, there were issues where FCPX couldn't send to it.

Last night I did a test of compressor 4.02 in Snow Leopard, still took 6 hours, but the time remaining estimate was accurate. Adobe Media encoder did the same render in less than 1 hour.

The other handy bit of kit I use is the Turbo264 HD, QT will see it and utilise it. Best £100 I've spent in the last 2/3 years.

Better hurry with that upgrade to Lion as Apple is releasing today to developers their preliminary version of 10.8 OSX (Mountain Lion???).

Seriously, Mountain Lion?

How about they get Lion working properly fro everyone before they go on and start promoting another OS upgrade. :(

Well, from what I hear that is a potential name, but not necessarily committed. You can find links all over the internet.

Apple has a preview video out that calls it Mountain Lion, it's an official name.

The Air Mirroring sounds like this might be the approach that Apple had for viewing footage out of FCPX all along. As you would just use the 2nd display feature to preview your footage to an external monitor or tv.

While bot broadcast quality, I wonder how smooth it would stream from a timeline to 2nd monitor.

I've been using AirPlay to stream movies and screens from my iPhone and iPad to my Apple TV for some time now. Super smooth, very clear, quite impressive. I have a 62" HDTV, and it would be nice to sit on the couch, MBP in lap (until it gives me 3rd degree burns), editing on that huge monitor.

Well I'm curious as to how well AirPlay would handle a NLE like FCPX and streaming the storyline straight to you HDTV set. If it performs well, then this would be a boon for those using IMacs or MacBook Pros, that are lacking outputs.

Also, I would be curious if there might be a way to stream from my computer to my set without having Apple TV.?
As while I do use an Airport Base station for my wireless, I don't own an Apple TV but rather a ROKU set top. My reasoning for having the ROKU over Apple TV is that I also have a Kindle Fire and the Amazon Prime. And Apple TV will not work on Amazon Prime. Due tot he fact that it competes against iTunes.
