Chapter Markers in 10.0.3 was created by Tom Wolsky
I heard that markers will now appear as chapter markers on a DVD. I can find no mention of this in the help file (but that doesn't wholly surprise me). On the other hand no markers are exporting from FCP and appearing in other applications like the QT player or Compressor. I'm wondering is there really are chapter markers, or just the original behavior to include 30 second jump markers on a DVD. If anybody can point me to documentation or something that shows there really are chapters markers in 10.0.3 I'd very much appreciate it.
All the best,
Tom

It is not FCP, it's Compressor. A marker set in Compressor is a chapter marker by default.
Can't confirm it, though, as I haven't upgraded yet.

Right. I know about the change in behavior in Compressor 4.0.2. I was checking on the change, if any in FCP.

I've done a few tests of making DVD's via Share in FCP X, and it "seems" like any markers are transferred as chapter markers, but you don't get any chapter menu. With the DVD player's remote, I can use the Skip To Next/Previous Chapter buttons and that "seems" to actually be working. Just wish it would generate a chapter menu.

I do so agree - I'd love to have proper chapter markers and a menu of some sort, even very simple. It's one of the answes I'm looking for as a new user of FCPX. Do let me know if you discover any further refinement of this.

I'm recommending Toast 11 Pro at this point in time.

Hi Tom
What are you using to author your DVD/Blu-ray discs? Personally, I've never used anything on a Mac other than Encore. Actually before leaving the PC back in 2006 I was using Encore for Windows version. Now that I think about it, I've Used Encore since version 1.0 and have never used anything else to author DVD's.
When I switched over to the Mac, I just stuck with Encore because I didn't want to learn DVD Studio Pro. Then I was ready for authoring Blu-rays when that came about. But yeah, I do remember being able to place chapter markers in Premiere Pro and they would cary over to Encore and I remember loosing that feature when I started editing in FCP.
Anyway, for a long time now I've been use to just creating my chapter markers inside Encore during the authoring stage. That's probably no consolation for your situation, but for those who are thinking about authoring in Encore, it's a viable workaround.

You lost the ability to carry over markers with FCP X, not with any previous version.
Toast is much cheaper than Encore for those who don't need the higher end bells and whistles.
