Well guys, I'm finding the FCP X great, better than 7, have opposing views here in the forum, but that's okay.

At the moment I'm the biggest problem is finding one: Disk Space.

How to work a lot with events, especially weddings, which are usually 5 or 6 files, tapes, or equal size cards, so I'm passing the problem of every wedding to be occupying the space of about 3 or so in the old program.

As I can not raise the price of the service, to offset the hds more, I'm creating this topic to see if anyone has any idea on how to get rid of files that can be deleted after it's done the work, to vacate the HD.

At 7, I have done many times was deleting files render, worked well as a large space freed in HD, but for two times I could not open the CF again, crashed, hence stopped doing that.

Has anyone tried something like the X?

Well you can delete Render files to free up disk space by selecting the project in the project library and selecting File > Delete Project Render Files

I guess you could just delete the Events after you completed the project. No?

I can not erase, some customers take up to eight months to finish the job. I am in the most complicated Brazil State - Minas Gerais, is the people here seemed like Uncle Scrooge, slow, boring, and stingy.
In your case, deleting files render you able to open the job again?

You might try just not rendering at all. I never do and here is why:

I understand, but this is more about speed, I'm more worried about HD space.

Then I guess the only solution you have is to upgrade your drives. ;)

This is so sad. I see the money flying out the window with wings.
As the old saying: "The money just is separated from a fool."

Why is this sad? This is the digital era or the information age.
Hard drive cost should be caudate in your clients pricing offer like tape was or is.
Don't forget wear and tear, I would advice you for a solid hard drive solution that will give you enough space.
You still have the option to remove the event and reimport or capture when needed (offline) right?

Render files take up space. Not rendering doesn't take up space. Hence it is faster plus doesn't take up the extra space.

Funny, I always tried to do it in seven and gave stick. Now I tried the X and crashed again. I do not know if I'm doing something wrong, how do you do?

I'm 12 Hds here between 1 and T 2, the bad is not having to buy them, the bad is that the 12, nine are standing by to work to resolve. I am a Freelancer, has no way to put it in the price.

"caudate"

Nice word. I've never seen it used like that.

Can you clarify? Perhaps it is my New Mexico accent, but I don't understand. What is crashing? what did you try to do in FCP 7?

I tried to export directly to Compressor FC. Share to Compressor, always gives the same error message - Media server disconected.
What I wonder is how people are managing to export the video without rendering. If I renderizo, it occupies huge space in HD, if not renderizo gives error. I must be doing something wrong.

What is "caudate"?

It means to have a tail. In this instance I think it means to add it to the price charged the client. This has been pretty standard procedure for some time, especially if you're storing projects and media for a client. Buy a drive. Charge it to them.

Okay. You have a couple of issues. 1) something is wrong with your compressor install. Try this to fix it.

www.digitalrebellion.com/compressorrepair/

2) Regarding exporting without rendering. Just turn off background rendering in preferences and then just don't render. Make sure you use Better Performance in playback.

When you export, FCP X will to the exported file and render on the fly without creating any additional render files.

However, what I am calling an exported file, you might "render files". If that is the case, then you can't export a file without creating a file.

@tpayton
When you select "better performance" will FCPX automatically render at the highest quality upon export or does this setting need to be changed back?
I have been using "best quality" so far on every project.

Oh yes, Better Performance and High Quality will yield the same results upon export.

"Better" and "Best" performance only apply to playback. Select either value, depending on the performance your system while working and viewing footage in the viewer.
Better Performance will give you the smoothest playback with the least amount of stuttering.

Best Performance will give you the Best overall image for viewing. I like to sue this only when I am doing color grading. As I am working on an old 2006 1,1 2.66 X4 MacPro (upgraded RAM, upgraded VCard Radeon 5770HD).

WHen I am doing general work, checking edit,, looking at transitions and effects, I select Better Performance.
