Hey I've started using proxy's as my 2017 MBP struggles with 10bit 4K footage from Sony FX-30 camera.
One of the draw back i am seeing however is that Even though I copy the camera files on to my external editing drive and keep them in a separate folder and chose "Leave in place" when importing, When I convert the files into proress 50% proxy's I still have a folder within the Final Cut Pro project called "original media" which is full of duplicates of the files so I've effectively doubled up on the large original media files and these files are clogging up my external Hard drive.
Should I remove the files from the enclosed "original media" folder?
Any thoughts and suggestions welcome.

Thanks Dai

I don't know if it's the same as Sony FX-6's, but if you use the import dialog, even with Leave in Place, FCP wants to make copies. Maybe it's because they're MXFs or the file/folder hierarchy, I don't know. The workaround is to instead drag the folder containing the footage into FCP. It will complain that there are XMLs it doesn't understand, but you can click through that and then you'll have your media left in place. I would also add that you want to make sure you have unique media filenames across all libraries.
