Trying to use keyboard commands more. How do you switch from the sidebar to the viewer and also activate clips in the viewer so they go from highlighted grey to blue - using the keyboard?

The sidebar? Cmd-3 makes the Viewer active. You have to switch to the Browser Cmd-1 and press Tab to make a clip blue in list view. The gray means it's selected. I don't think you can have the Viewer active and have the clip displayed as blue at the same time.

Tab from Sidebar to Browser or Shift-Tab from Browser to Sidebar. Might have to use it multiple times as the Tab function does multiple things.

That kind of works. It's a shame TAB activates text edit as that could end up accidentally renaming things. I'll have a play around with it. Thanks.
