Oh you mean the over used Lens Flare effect :woohoo:
There are Filters that will produce this effect or you can build them on your own.
But even better you can make them yourself with a flashlight and with special Filter.
Give Google try.

Scrube I love your response.
Every one of these effects are things you can do in motion. Heck once you do it one in motion you can then save as an effect to use in fcp. As for the glare. It is 2 things. Look at the glows in motion. Then the added a zoomed layer/glass slice. I created a glass slice effect for fcp, and even created a tutorial to go with it. Look in the effects section.

Or the good old ghetto way.
Create a vector in the shape and size you want it feather it out activate the glow property and adjust in your liking and use the a blend mode that fits your color and clip.
I still like the Flash light lens way.

I'd draw a simply line with the bezier tool. Tweak it around, there's lots you can do with it. Now that you mention it, I may go ahead and do a tutorial about doing just this thing for my HUB series at macProVideo.

Looks like a mixture of filters and real lights.
Have you tried google lens flare, or as a tip watch the making of J.J. Abrams Star Trek.
What are you using to do you Effects. Motion or After Effects?
For Motion there is mFlare and for After Effects Optical Flare .
But use with caution don't offer us the effect. In fact in my book it is played out and getting old. Unless it is created natural through the camera I stay away from it. But that is my opinion.

About the best FCP X and Motion lens flares are GenArts Sapphire Edge, very realistic, best quality, but super over priced for what you get.
And I'll chime in with everyone else here, it's a super over used effect and it's getting old. Like everyone recognizing SoundTrack Pro canned music beds at one point.
I'm wrapping up a video course for macProVideo.com at the moment about doing professional effects, transitions, titles, and motion graphic guides for what works and what doesn't. The first thing I teach in it, and stress through out the whole course is, NEVER USE AN EFFECT BECAUSE IT'S COOL! Use an effect because it adds or enhances information about the story that the edit is telling at the time, period. Most of the time a lens flare is used now just cause it's the pop effect and has nothing to do with what's going on with the scene or the story. Y'all, please, stop it! Lens flare, burnt film, and extreme DOF are all three, IMHO, the sign of amateur productions.

Ben I agree with you on the Lens Flare, Burnt film and Extreme DOF, but if a client wants it you can't just tell them they don't know what they want. I love it when someone says I want it to look just like this. (I have to color grade and add effects to make their video look like the one they saw someone else do)
But sometimes they listen and you can be creative and do your own thing.
Always ask if an effect or transition enhances your story. Is there a point to me adding this. What will my viewer get out of me adding this.
