Export 422 1080i

Forgive me if this is a dumb question. I am trying to create a video for free to air broadcasting and the channel's specification calls for Prores 422 1080i (Interlaced). I spec my Project in FCP to be 1080i, but will the output be interlaced if I choose File Export? The spec screen doesn't specify.

Also in Compressor, I can't find an output format that is interlaced.

Please enlighten me. Thanks in advance.

Yes, if your Project/timeline is set to ProRes 422 1920 x 1080 at 29.97i (1080i HD Format in Project settings) and you export to Video and Audio ProRes 422, it should create a 1080i output file.

In Compressor, you can use the ProRes 422 output preset and set the Frame size (1920 x 1080), Frame rate (29.97), and field order (top first), it should output an interlaced 1080i file. Check the summary at the top of the settings pane once you've chosen your settings.

After export, you could open the file in Invisor or MediaInfo to check the metadata and specs.

Many thanks. I have found MediaInfo on my Mac. We are in Australia, which is PAL so 25fps, but otherwise should be all good.

For presenting the footage to the client, I have to have MP4 to show on his flat screen TV.

Yeah, just swap 25i for the 29.97i I mentioned. Sorry.

If your footage is progressive, you could choose to edit a 1080p25 Project in FCP, export that, then create the ProRes 422 1080i25 master in Compressor, along with the MP4 version...

Took me a little while, but I think I have figured out how to set Compressor to Interlaced for the Australian Broadcasting TV channels submission.

Perhaps you could confirm these?

1. Duplicate ProRes/Apple ProRes 422 - this creates an entry under CUSTOM
2. Edit the copy
3. General Tab:
4. Changed name to Apple ProRes 422 1080i 25fps
5. Video Tab:
6. Frame size: Up to 1920 x 1080
7. Frame rate: 25 fps (for PAL)
8. Field order: Top First
9. Color space: Rec. 709
10. Codec: Apple ProRes 422
