Freeze Frame not synced with video

Hi gurus,
I want to do something simple - just insert a freeze frame (~5 - 10 sec) in the middle of a clip. I place the playhead at the appropriate position and select Edit>Add Freeze Frame (opt-F). This inserts the freeze frame as expected BUT the freeze frame is just slightly different from both the frame immediately before it and the one immediately following it - resulting in a small (but visually jarring) jump going into and exiting from the freeze frame.
I was expecting the transition into and out of the freeze frame to be smooth and unnoticeable - am I expecting too much or doing something wrong (is there a better technique)? Thanks for any help!

It sounds like you want to ease into the freeze frame and then ease out of it again. What you are doing at the moment is stopping and starting instantly (which can work fine, but is not looking good in the case of the footage you are using).
This explains how to do this:

You could do what Zabobon linked to or you could try it this way to see if it helps:
1 - Park the playhead where you want the freeze frame to begin. Press Shift H to create a hold frame. Drag it as long as you want it to be.
2 - Profit.
