Trying to make a simple border for clip 22 Mar 2023 02:38 #124660

Hello all, pretty simple question. I did a nice border around an inset clip, then forgot where I found that effect. Slapping my forehead now. I need to redo the clip, so I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Do you mean the Stylize/Frame effect?

Actually it’s called “simple border.” Will keep looking, don’t know why it’s so hard to find. Really sets off an inset image, makes the vid look less home-grown.

Adding a drop shadow will give an insert visual depth, border or no.

Found it! Did a search for “border” under all vid effects. Don’t know how to change the color, though. One thing at a time.

Thanks for the help. I really like the drop shadow suggestion. Haven’t quite got the hang of it yet, the YouTube tutorials are for an older version and so far I can’t figure how to just grab the shadow and drag it where I want. All these x and y axis options.

Drop shadow can be placed anywhere even if it makes no sense. Once you get falloff, blur, opacity, etc all set you can paste those attributes to any other clips so everything matches.

Also, when you select the Drop Shadow effect in the inspector, the shadow's bounding box will appear in your viewer and you can just drag it into position.

EDIT: This is the drop shadow effect from the effects browser, not the text generator's built-in shadow (which isn't draggable).

Thank you. I've got the dragging part down, but getting the shadow where I want is what's challenging me. The default setting appears to be a shadow directly under the object I've selected. I'll keep playing with it.
