Question Regarding Editing Video Clip 03 Mar 2023 20:04 #124445
I searched and I THINK I need to use the shape mask on individual frames to accomplish this? But I'm not sure so decided to ask.
Below is a link to the clip in question. I'd like to edit out the "dropped ice cream" from the video. www.dropbox.com/s/uqt5njbmf08z5uf/Vera%2...ream%20Clip.mov?dl=0 Any thoughts would be most appreciated! Thank you. |

It's only on a very few frames. I think I would export the single frames as Tiffs, touch-up each in Photoshop (or another image editor) and re-import them back into the timeline putting the touched-up Tiffs above the original frames. |

Here is what I came up with. It's not perfect, but no one will ever know.

One thing that's handicapping you is the low data bitrate of the 16mm transfer file.
These days it's a crime working with anything less than a 1080HD ProRes file. For worthwhile editing results that 9 second file properly rendered should be 165MB, not 2.9MB. (I can get your video back into the ballgame provided you have the original footage.) Note the detail from an 8mm frame having 5.20x less image area than your 16mm frame. Your segment has held up better than this 2 lady 16mm sample found in a Pennsylvania barn so there is potential there. (By the way that's not ice cream she's eating. It's an apple.) |

Question Regarding Editing Video Clip 04 Mar 2023 15:47 #124458
Hi VTC. Thanks for your reply. You bring up some valid points. (Believe it or not this is 8mm footage from 1940)
When I finally found someone who was capable of doing a quality film transfer for me (that was a painful process in and of itself), I discovered that he only provides .avi files. So I had to convert those to be able to edit the footage in FCP. That is probably where my first mis-step was - converting them to a compressed format (MP4). What would be the best way to convert these avi files? (P.S. BTW that is my mom, and she is most definitely eating an ice cream cone. You just can't see it clearly in this very short clip) <edit> Wait a minute. You are correct. It is an apple!!! |

It appears on just a few shots. I believe I would export the individual frames as Tiffs, make any necessary adjustments in Photoshop, and then import the Tiffs back into the timeline in front of the original frames. By the way after seeing your post i can go to the very interesting page
click for info
if you also know about this page then i can see here many ideas to write my essay.
