Long, slow, fade from black

Long, slow, fade from black was created by PhilCF2
Hi guys,
I am trying to do a very long, slow fade in from black. When I use the fade from black transition, it just seems to happen incredibly quickly. I have tried selecting the clip, hitting "Control and V" to open animations, and then pulling the opacity slider up. Again the fade in isn't as long as I'd like.
Does anyone have a cool way of doing fade in from black that I'm missing??
I'm using the latest FCPX on a fully updated Macbook Pro.
Thanks,

Just use a long cross dissolve from black. Fade to black is for a transition between clips.
