Separation Folders for effects, transitions, generators and titles 01 Feb 2023 15:08 #123935
I would like to know how separate group of transitions or effects or titles or generators inside the FCPX related panels.
I was thinking that you can go on MOTION TEMPLATES folder by finder, choose your main folder like "Transitions", then you can create your own folder like "My transitions" and then you can copy inside it your group of transitions, for example you can create groups like "linear transitions" and "cube transitions" creating this two folders. Inside them you can copy all your transitions. So in finder you have to see: Home user -> movies -> Motion Templates -> Transitions -> My Transitions -> Cube Transitions Home user -> movies -> Motion Templates -> Transitions -> My Transitions -> Linear Transitions The result of this operation, inside FCPX have to be this: on the transitions panel you will find a firs group under the standard one ALL, 360°, Blurs and so on, you will find a group called "My transitions". Selecting it, you have to see on the right panel all the transitions you putted inside the folder, but separated by a mail text that corresponds to your folders "Cube Transitions" and "Linear Transitions". What I have instead is that sometime you can see this separation between Cube Transactions and Linear transactions. Other times you have all the transaction mixed all together. This means that there is some rule that I don't know creating these folders to make it readable correctly by FCPX. Could you help me please? |

Separation Folders for effects, transitions, generators and titles 01 Feb 2023 21:26 #123941
Final Cut allows for an extra level of separation called "Theme". It's a folder that fits this scheme:
Motion Templates/[Template Type]/[Custom Category]/[Theme]/<template folder> Simply adding the theme level may or may not work for you. If a template is created with a Theme in Motion, the XML added to the template file specifies a theme, like this: <template> <theme>My Theme</theme> </template> I have seen it reported that you can simply add theme folders and FCPX will honor it, so give it a try. One caveat: If you've already installed and used templates from specific categories, moving them into theme folders will cause Missing Template alerts for projects/clips in which they were already used. If you used custom parameter settings, in most cases, these will also have to be reset. In this case, I would recommend copying the templates in the Finder and paste the copies into theme folders. (Verify the theme versions work). Temporarily remove the category level version and let Final Cut throw the Alerts -- they're easy to spot. ADD themed versions along side the Missing. In the finder, put back the temporarily removed versions. Go back into Final Cut and make the necessary parameter changes using the originals as guides. When everything is working without the originals, they can be deleted from the category levels, and restart FCPX to clear them all out. HTH |

Separation Folders for effects, transitions, generators and titles 02 Feb 2023 10:53 #123948
I think you are right.
In fact if I move "my transitions" folder in the motion template folder it goes well and I have the "My Transition" group... But I was searching for a category INSIDE it. So I will study this "theme" option you explained to me to understand how apply it. Thank you. |

GREAT!!! I solved it!
Opening with TextEdit the XLM file of the effect (extension .motr for transactions), you can copy this text before the BUILD TAG that is present in every effect: <template> <theme> Name of your category/folder </theme></template> It will create the relative category inside the group of your effects. Perfect! Thank you! |

Hi sc_fox.
As I said before, I was using your suggestion to create my transitions groups. To be clear on what I was doing, I moved all my personal transitions groups (free effects found on internet and so on) on the motion template folders... and then I edited manually the xml file of every transition adding the THEME tag. Do you have a suggestion to create this themes groups/folder automatically without going inside the XLM files and create it manually? |
