Any DVcreators FilmStyles alternative for Apple Silicon? was created by TomB
Dear all,
is there any viable option to replace the FilmStyles effects by DVcreators? From what I can tell, they are not natively compatible with Apple Silicon, support and development seems basically non-existent, the recent installer does not even launch on macOS 11+ and I do not want to use Rosetta just for these effects (although I love them a lot).
Thank you very much in advance!
Kind Regards
Tom

CinemaGrade is an alternative color grading utility and can deal with LUTS but it doesn't have preset looks which is what the FilmStyles plugin was. We still have FilmStyles active on a Mac Pro running Mojave. For Silicon or later Intel OS systems, I think the closest you'll find is either Magic Bullet Suite (now distributed by Maxon and previously by Red Giant), or Boris FX Continuum 2023. Boris FX has bundles and part of it includes numerous presets, dual gradient looks, film style looks and more. Many of those looks became available when Tiffen sold their DFX looks package to Boris FX a number of years ago. We used DFX for nearly 10 years and loved the quality and customization of the preset looks. The tools mentioned above by either Boris or Maxon provide a complete user interface within FCP and far more adjustments and customizations than the original DV Creators film style plugin did.

Not to be contrary, but CinemaGrade absolutely does have preset looks - nearly 70 by my count. Once you've got your base correction, you can group and match your shots by scene, and for the final grade it's got a Looks browser that shows your currently selected shot with all the options.

Well thanks for pointing that out. We have CinemaGrade Pro and I just pulled it up on one of our edit stations and the collection of looks is there. I never used them before because CinemaGrade used to cause erratic crashing on FCP so we took it off most of our computers quite a while ago, but I think that may have long been fixed.
