Delete generated library files is NOT clearing cache!

Hello there,

My library is working A-okay, I've just finished a big project and now I want to simply get rid of ALL render files.
So I go to File > Delete generated library files > check 'ALL" render files + Optimized Media / Proxy Media.
After I proceed with this, the 56.65Gb of render files is still there!
I've restarted the computer, and...still there.

What am I missing here? Is this a bug?

Show screenshots of where deleted files all. Did you have All checked when you deleted renders?

Hi!
Sorry, didn't get the question 'Show screenshots of where deleted files all'.
As I said on the previous message, yes, I've checked the 'All' options while asking FCPX to delete render files.

Updating:
On a second shot, instead of selecting only the library (at the left-hand Library menu), I've selected ALL elements of the projects (at the 2nd column, from left to right), i.e: Projects/events/everything!, then I've right-clicked and asked to delete all render files again.
It went from 57 Gb to 4.Gb. So I can assume it mostly/partially worked!

NOTE:
I made this exactly same question on a facebook FCPX group post and at least three persons told me to buy a 3rd part plugin (forgot the name, sorry) that apparently can solve any issues like this.
But I honestly think it would be a shame that I have to buy a 3rd part plugin to make something so ...essential/basic, as deleting render files.

Would have liked to have seem the screenshot of where the render files are. You don't need any third party software. This should not failed, and this is the first time I've heard of it failing if it's done correctly.

There are several issues here:

(1) As Tom said you don't need any 3rd party software to delete *render* files, provided you issue the proper FCP commands.

(2) Besides render files, there are other files in the library which cannot be deleted via FCP commands and may take up space. Those include waveform, thumbnail, optical flow and stabilization analysis files. Those are not render files but can take up considerable space. These files cannot be deleted using FCP menu commands.

(3) To delete the non-render files you have several options:

(a) Open the library package with Finder via right-click and "Show Package Contents". Those files are in EventName>Analysis Files. You can delete the folder, however do so at your own risk.

(b) Place the FCP cache files (which in this case includes thumbnail, waveform and analysis files in a separate folder using these FCP commands:

- Select library name in left sidebar
- Make sure Inspector is enabled via OPT+4
- In Inspector pane at right, pick Storage Locations>Modify Settings
- Pick a folder location for cache.
- Answer "Don't Include" to "Do you want to move your render files?"
- In the location you chose will be a bundle named YourLibraryName.fcpcache. That bundle contains the FCP render cache, waveform, thumbnail, optical flow analysis and stabilization analysis files. The bundle can be safely deleted whenever you want, however I suggest doing it when FCP is shut down. This will free up all that space, not just the space for render files.

(c) Use the 3rd party tool Final Cut Library Manager. It is NOT a plugin but a stand alone utility. It ranges in price from $27 to $33. It can safely delete the above cache files from all on-disk libraries and does many things besides that. It is an excellent product.  www.arcticwhiteness.com/finalcutlibrarymanager/

This from a post about searching through all your FCP libraries for something via Final Cut Library Manager which also has the ability to delete those drive consuming files (Note selectable Optimized, Proxy, Flow, Render file options) which will be regenerated on a subsequent export.

I case anyone else is having this issue still...I just started having the same issue. Came about when I filled a drive and started to try and move them to another drive. FCPX won't delete render files or Optimized/Proxy media at the Library level. I have to go in and do it at the Event level.

After solving the HD Full issue, FCPX seems to be responding properly with Library size again. It doesn't refresh immediately, after I delete generated files, but when I click away from the Library Info, and come back, it shows the new reduced size properly. It also reflects correctly in the Finder.
