How Do You Change the Sound Effect Path to an External Hard Drive?

I have gigs of sound effects and I don't want to put them on my main drive; I have an external drive that all of these files on. I'd like to save space and time. If anyone could help guide me on how to change the file path from my Mac HD to my external. I'd greatly appreciate it!

Hi Herve, do you know if it is possible to do with generators, titles, transition and so on? (I mean the motion folder to be honest)

Some time ago I tried to move all the motion folders inside the corresponding folders inside a library on an external disk. I think it was working... but I didn't use it for a long time so I'm not sure.

've done this before and the answer was found on this thread:
discussions.apple.com/thread/252177637
1) Draged the Motion Templates folder to an external hard drive
2) Deleted the original folder from Movies folder
3) Open Terminal
4) Type cd ~/Movie and press enter
5) Type ln -s ending with a SPACE but do NOT press enter
6) Drag the Motion Templates folder from the external drive onto the Terminal window.
Do NOT press enter yet
7) Type and press enter.
the command may look like this:
ln -s /Volumes/ExternalDriveName/Motion\ Templates.localized Motion\ Templates.localized
