What is going on with Final Cut *FPS* before / after export?! Not smooth at all. was created by Gabby16bit
Since I moved to Final Cut from Premiere Pro I noticed that there is something weird in my FPS. I'm using recordings from OBS mp4 or mov. But premiere pro can handle the same recordings much better.
But the problem is that, after export, Final Cut doesn't look a true 60fps at all!
Before you ask, yes I checked the project settings on FCP, and yes it is 60fps the project and file is fine.
To me it seems a bug.
Any idea why this is happening? Thanks.
Here a link of a video demostration of the problem:
My specs: M1 Mac mini 16gb ram
Edit: I tried with the iMac M1 8 gb ram of my mom. Same problem.

The full report would be useful. Really needs to see if the frame rate is constant or variable and what the variation is. Try optimizing the media.

Thanks for the response. Is CBR for sure. I record always like that and 30.000 bit rate, I don't know where to go exactly for the full report.
But I tried even videos that I have downloaded as test from YouTube, and they have the same problem. 60 fps is not smooth as premiere pro. And PP can handle the same file as it should. I'm afraid that every file I'm gonna throw at it will look like that, I'm gonna do some more testing. If any of you have a 60 fps file that should work, share it with me and i will show you if it's a bug or not.

Not the bit rate, the frame rate. Some devices, the iPhone being one, but a number of others as well, shoot variable frame rates.

Edit* sorry im stupid. Now i understand what you mean, my app is settet to 60 fps, i don't know if obs records in variable framerate. Is there a way to see if the file is variable in mediainfo?
. I tried to download some 60fps video from internet and they seem fine, but i need a video with a lot of movement. Maybe it happens only with long videos, it seems almost like a performance issue of fcp because in the preview sometime goes faster then slow down. I hope to find a solution and that the problem is only about that fcp don't like obs recordings with mp4.

If you look closely in the complete list of data in MediaInfo it will show if it is variable or constant frame rate.

Thank you Tom for taking your time to help me figure this out.
Mediainfo and Premiere Pro says it's variable. So you are right. The video I then exported in Premiere Pro is constant, i used the same example of the video showcased on this topic in the FCP timeline and now the frame rate is smooth as it should be.
Is still a shame Fcp can't handle variable as premiere does, but at least there is a way to fix it.
Thank you!

Did you try optimizing the OBS media?

I was using a MKV format for safety reasons. And that was causing a variable framerate when recoded in mp4. Now I'm recording directly in mov or prores and it seems a lot better. But yeah it was the VFR the problem.

I've had nothing but bad luck with OBS and in general I don't use it for game capture. I've had others send me files they created in OBS and it's nothing but bad news. I'll either use Quicktime itself combined with a Magewell USB Capture HDMI Gen 2 and save to ProRes, or an Elgato 4K60S+ and have it write to the SD card (at around 80,000kbps). If you're doing straight up screen captures I'd invest in Screenflow and just make sure you export at 60fps as it defaults to a wimpy 30fps (it always captures at 60, though).
Also, don't bother with MKV.
