Export failures in FCP 10.6.5 was created by haysoos123
Hey, is anyone getting strange export failures from more complex timelines or maybe at least heavier timelines with lots of effects or use of templates? It's hard to pin down what's causing what. This is for the latest version, 10.6.5. I don't think I was experiencing this in the version before this.
BUT, the workaround I discovered is to set an in and out point at the beginning and end. Then the exports go fine. I found this out while trying to isolate perhaps a corrupted frame, by setting in-out points for small sections of the timeline. Each time, the export would work. Then, I tried the in-out points at the beginning and end, and that also worked. Hardware is an M1 Max 16" MBP, 64GB RAM, running the latest Ventura.
Has anyone else seen this? I know they tweaked exports in this recent version, and I wonder if it's related. It was driving me crazy until I discovered the workaround. I mean, it's not a big deal to set in and out points, but really the exports should just work.

Ok, after much hand-wringing about this, it turns out that the problem was a failing drive on one of our RAID drives (a 16 drive array). The weird thing is that it didn't actually show any indication of failure for days until just yesterday when it started beeping.
But generally, it was happening across several projects. Footage varied a lot, everything from Canon RAW to ProRes from atomos and even prores from 360 cameras. This eventually clued me into a more general problem, and also that in my searching others didn't seem to have this particular issue with 10.6.5.
The in-out "workaround" just happened to work for those several instances for some reason. The problem was a lot more intermittent and maddening.
