Does anyone have any idea as to why I can’t delete media from an FCP X Project?
When I delete a clip as per the instructions by clicking on Move to trash with the clip selected.FCP X deletes the symlink inside the FCP X package event folder, but not the actual media file which lives outside the package folder. And yes I've emptied the trash.
Thoughts?
Lastest versions of FCP X and OS 12.6. M1 MBP and media is on an SSD.
In the master project directory I have Final cut original media, Final Cut Optised Media and FC Proxy and then also the project itself.

That's the correct behavior for media that's been left in place when imported. FCP never alters anything that's outside the library bundle. If you want to trash the external media you have to do it manually.
Just trash the external files and in FCP simply delete the clips missing file icons that will appear.

Interesting - and makes sense but I've not actually used left in place. When I start a project I create a folder on the drive and in that folder create the FCP X project. I then point FCP X to store the media in that folder not inside the project. Media gets copied there so not actually left in place - but not inside the project. Interestingly the manual doesn't mention that its only for media inside the project bundle.

Same thing. Media outside the bundle is never touched.
That’s very poorly written, as is, unfortunately, much of the documentation.
