I've been using FCP since it came out so know it pretty well but there's one thing I haven't done and I'm going to need to do it.
I've been editing a large 4k doc with tons of footage as it's all on a single, relatively slow drive and I only have a 2TB ssd I've been working with proxy.... getting to the point of grading and I can relink to the files on the slower drive fine but it's too slow ( stalls when I press play etc.)... I'd like to consolidate just the files from the cut. ( I know fcp doesn't trim them but I imagine I'll have space for just the files used )... will the consolidate project do that? allow me to make a new library with just the used files from the final cut project in it? thanks in advance.

Make a library. Copy the edited project into it. It will copy just the clips used in the project into the assigned storage location.
