Hi,
Just got an Apple Studio display for editing and grading in fcp... yes I know I need a pro monitor and hardware for proper grading but given that I don't have them is there a best preset setting for video? I find the HDTV setting to be really dark... the only nice looking one is the P3... but maybe it's not about nice? Any hints?
Johnny

Johnny, the Apple Studio Display seems to be a native P3 wide-color gamut (non-HDR) display:

By preset, are you referring to the Display color (ColorSync) profile that you choose in the Displays System Preferences? If so, the P3 profile is likely the best one to use. A possibly more accurate profile could be made by using a hardware calibration device and profiling SW. Doing so would take into account slight differences for any given display device, as well as possibly taking ambient room lighting into account (but that's somewhat complicated).
In FCP, if you stick with Projects using the Rec. 709 color space, what you see in the Viewer with the P3 profile should be pretty accurate.

Check out the following video for some additional great info. These settings will work for both video & photos as noted by Art. 😊
