Shortcut to return to main timeline after having double-clicked into a group? was created by Slaughter
I'm embarrassed to say that for years now I have not known how to do this, nor can I find any shortcuts online, most likely because I am using incorrect terminology. I have searched this forum and of course all of the applicable search terms bring up everything but an answer to this question... I'm sure it's here somewhere, haha!
1. I double click into a grouped section which brings me into a new timeline window where I can edit that grouped section.
2. The only way that I know how to return to the main timeline within which that grouped clip lives is to arduously scroll back up my browser, find the project and double click on that.
There has to be a better way - what's the short cut to return to the main timeline?
Thanks and sorry for the ludicrously dumb Q.
Also - didn't the profile manager in this forum used to have a signature component?
I am sure I had a signature at one point.... saves from retyping the usual about your version history, production chain etc.

At the top center of the timeline pane/section of FCP, there is the timeline history. It has the name of the current Project or clip open in the timeline with "<" and ">" arrows to the left and right of it, respectively.
You can use the left arrow to back out of a compound clip, sync clip, multicam clip, etc. Or, you could use "command-[".
Here's a description of this in the user manual in a section about compound clips:
