Hello,

I’ve been using a QNAP TVS-1282T-i7-32G as my main media server via 10GB ethernet and SMB network protocol.

A friend set this up for me (when I was at a company with multiple editors working from the server).

I’m wondering, now that I use this alone with a single Mac studio connected, is the ethernet/smb connection still the best option?

Are there settings I could revise to optimise this sole connection, or even reformat and start the process again?

Thank you

Theoretically, you should be able to get faster I/O via the Thunderbolt 2 ports on that box (you'll need Apple's TB2/3 adapter dongle).

This may or may not be more or less reliable than the 10GbE connection, but I'd say it's worth the price of the dongle to test. I'd also check to see that the QNAP is running the latest firmware.

You could also ask in the Storage and Archiving forum on Creative Cow.

+1 on making sure your firmware is up-to-date. There have been a few very destructive QNAP ransomware episodes recently.

Lumaforge used to recommend NFS over SMB for FCP, at least for the library. I don't know if that has changed in current versions.

Thomas Berglund posted some detailed network config items here, I don't know if it still applies on current versions of FCP and MacOS on Mac Studio:  fcp.co/forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-fcpx/3151...work?start=40#109131

OTOH I would be cautious about changing low-level network tuning parameters for the reasons stated in this discussion: fcp.co/forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-fcpx/3443...e-suggestions#110674
