Rendering a clip to a completely new file without Importing/Exporting

Hi folks,

I have a strange problem with the FlickerFree plugin after migration from Intel -> ARM which, long story short, means I have to export clips out of FCPX as compressed 10-bit 4:2:2 with just the FlickerFree plugin on, then import back in and paste/apply colour grading and some keyframed 'transform', like a Ken Burns effect.

(Something about FlickerFree is freaking out when the transition keyframe effect is happening and giving massive glitches on this 'old' project from intel/older version of FCPX/older version of FlickerFree).

And no, rendering the FlickerFree plugin from within FCPX and then applying grading/transform after doesn't work. I've tried a step by step background render, turning background off and deleting all project render files, lots of combinations, the only thing that worked is the export/import.

So my question is, is there a way to truly create a new clip - not a compound clip which references the same clip - but a new clip with 1 effect on, rather than this export/import thing I'm doing now?

Thanks!

I have an Apple Silicon machine and the latest version 2.1.5 version of Flicker Free. So far I haven't seen the problem you describe.

Can you verify the version of Flicker Free you now have is 2.1.5? If you had an older x86 version of the plugin that was migrated from an x86 machine to Mac, I don't know what the behavior would be. However in your timeline you should be able to remove the Flicker Free effect then re-apply the current 2.1.5 version.

If it causes some side-effect with a certain transition, state the details and I can try to reproduce it. Knowing the exact camera codec would also be useful.

Re creating a new clip, Fx are generally applied as attributes in the project. FCP stores each project as a separate SQL database. I'd suggest you create a new blank project then copy/paste a few clips from the original project to there. Or alternatively duplicate the project then open it. Both clips and effects should appear but you can delete all unwanted attributes with Edit>Remove Effects or delete only specific effects with Edit>Remove Attributes. Then you will have a copy of the clips but only containing Flicker Free.
