I have some footage shot on different cameras, on a 1TB SSD.
While the RED footage scrub and plays back nice and smooth, scrubbing the Sony footage is very laggy making editing a chore. So I'd like to make proxies for the Sony footage (Not enough space for a full transcode)
Problem is, I don't want to Proxy the RED footage as it's fine as it is, and I want retain access to the RED RAW. (All the proxies files get deleted whenever the RAW panel is adjusted.
So is there anyway to only proxy specificities files?

You should be able to select the Sony clips in your Browser and then right-click and choose "Transcode Media...".
You can select "create proxies" and choose your settings.
After the proxies are created, you'll need to switch the media playback setting in the View menu of the Viewer to "Proxy Preferred". FCP will then use the proxies for the Sony footage and the original RED files.
There is a bunch of good info about using proxies in the FCP manual:
support.apple.com/guide/final-cut-pro/cr...fd/10.6.2/mac/11.5.1
Cheers.

Ah ha. Thankyou. The last time I tried proxies, "preferred' wasn't an option. They must have gone and snuck it in there while I wasn't looking!
