Hello group, sorry to ask twice but wondering what people are doing with XDcam footage, Sony does not make the XDcam transfer plug in any longer, and for some reason Catalyst crashes... Literally searching for an hour with no questions like this since 2014..

If anyone has an idea please let me know.

Apple's "Media Formats Supported" page says XDCAM HD/EX/HD422 is supported:
support.apple.com/guide/final-cut-pro/su...mats-ver2833f855/mac

If you are not running the latest version of Apple Pro Video Formats, on recent versions of MacOS that is updated as part of System Preferences>Software Update. Older versions had a separate update package downloadable from Apple.

You can inspect the version of Pro Video Formats you are running in About this Mac>System Report>Software>Installations, then scroll down in the right-hand pane to "Pro Video Formats". The current version is 2.2.2.

If you could post the year and model of Mac, the version of MacOS and the details of your camera and format, that would help. If Sony's own Catalyst software crashes trying to import the media, that's not a good sign.

For codec-type issues like this it's good to use a 3rd-party tool like MediaInfo or Invisor to inspect the metadata details:
apps.apple.com/us/app/invisor-media-file...or/id442947586?mt=12

Hello Joe,
I did check the pro video formats I am on 2.2.2, I'm 2017 macbook pro os11 fcpx 10.6.1 the camera was an older pmw ex3 I have the full folder structure. Catalyst is crashing on launch... I can play the file in mplayer and I can convert the files with edit ready and handbrake. I am totally stumped.... I am on 11.6.4 there appears to be a minor update, I will try that and report back. But it did not say update the provideo format.

Nope, I sort of am in shock that in 2022, one cannot get this to work. I've tested it out in a few pre-edit apps kyno and did a convert in edit ready and it was fine, I looked at the meta data it seems like a normal file xdcam 1920 in high quality. I have the latest 2.2.2 pro video format. I guess I will have to leave it as dead and use the prores conversion but if anyone has this issue and resolves it please let me know or post. I upgraded to os11.6.5

Nope, I sort of am in shock that in 2022...

If you can upload me a clip and associated folder tree I'll examine it on various Macs and software versions. If there is any proprietary content, just shoot a 2-sec test clip.

Just zip the folder tree and upload to here:  www.transferbigfiles.com/dropbox/joema

If you're willing to share the file with others, perhaps you could upload it to WeTransfer or your Dropbox and post a link here? Thanks.

I sent a link to both of you, would love it if you all saw something. That makes it easier if the issue is on my setup.

If you sent it via a private forum message, I don't think that works. If you can upload it to DropBox or Google Drive, then post that, everyone who wants to help investigate could try it.

If you only want me and Tom to inspect it, drop it here which is secure and write only: www.transferbigfiles.com/dropbox/joema

I can then send it privately to Tom if that's OK.

How geriatric are the files? I have computers going back to the G3 era I keep around for eventualities. I also archive any previous batch of Pro Video codecs before updating to any current codecs because once they're over written you'll never locate where to download them again if you need to revert to the version that, while may not be current, at least they worked.
