DNxHR import??

DNxHR import?? was created by Redifer
So someone exported a video from Resolve that's DNxHR because Resolve on PC can't export ProRes due to some nonsensical stupid BS. The DNxHR .mov file opens perfectly with Quicktime (both 7 and X) and will play via the space bar with Quicklook. However Final Cut Pro will not import it, no how, no way. Probably for the same idiotic reason Resolve can't export ProRes (ie a political and not a technical reason). Is this the case? My only option is to open it in Resolve and export a ProRes there.
I wish these companies wouldn't get their panties in a twist around their codecs. It's in the best interest of everyone if all codecs work (and can be exported from) everything.

Question: Is this a problem between Apple-FCP and Blackmagic-Resolve or between Apple-macOS and Microsoft-Windows?

Well since the Mac OS recognizes it with Quicklook and Quicktime just fine, I think Final Cut Pro is intentionally coded NOT to support the codec. Not sure why the OS itself and Quicktime are allowed to support it, though.

I downloaded the original file from this Vimeo page
vimeo.com/668840109
.
It's MPEG-4 in DNxHR and seems to import and work in FCP in a square project.

Quicktime Player 7 is 32-bit and neither it or old versions of FCP will run on recent versions of MacOS.
From briefly checking the FCP release notes (below), it appears that DNxHD support was added starting in FCP 10.5. Is it possible you are running an old version of FCP which does not have updated DNxHD support?
I just checked two different DNxHD formats exported from Resolve Studio 17.4.5 in a Quicktime wrapper and a MXF 444 OP Atom wrapper, and those both work on FCP 10.6.1 on Monterey 12.3.
In this previous thread, I tested eight different DNx formats from the Atomos Ninja V on FCP 10.5.2, Catalina 10.15.7 and Apple Pro Video Formats 2.2.1, and they all worked.

That must be it. I'm still on Mojave on this machine and 10.4 and will never, ever update it. My Mac Studio arrives this week.
Still odd that even 32-bit Quicktime and Mojave itself supports the format and FCP doesn't. I would think that FCP could open anything Quicktime can.

That's because Mojave still allows 32-bit components. FCP is 64-bit and its media architecture is not based on QT.

FWIW, I just created two test files in AME. DNXHD and DNXHR. Both play in QT and in FCP just fine. I'm on Big Sur. Have you installed the Avid codec pack that might be needed for macOS compatibility?

Looks like the latest Avid Codecs are from 2011. I don't think they'll let FCP pre-10.5 run DNxHR. Mac OS and Quicktime already sees it fine.
