External Audio Sync Problem Creating Multicam Clips Across Split Files was created by GreenThumbMatt
Hey All,
I recently shot a 2 camera interview (A CAM: C300 MKII; B CAM: C70) with external sound and TC jammed across the lot using Tentacle Sync E's, which is a setup we use a lot.
In the middle of the interview, the B Cam's card ran out and it switched to the 2nd card automatically. I haven't had any issues with creating multicam clips of the other interviews that day, but I am really struggling to get this one to work. It's actually a problem I had on another recent shoot, which I solved with an inelegant method I'd rather not repeat.
I thought the best way to solve this was to create a compound clip with the two ends of the interview and then create a multicam clip from that using TC instead of audio, but it's totally jumbled up. Camera A has synced up nicely with the external audio, but Cam B (the one that was split into two files) appears to have come together backwards, i.e. the slated beginning file is playing last and the 2nd part of the interview is first, so obviously sound isn't synced.
Has anyone come across this issue before? Anyone have an elegant solution? Thanks very much!
Oh, just in case, I'm running 10.6.1 on a 16" MacBook Pro M1 Max. Media is sitting on a RAID 5 inside my Thunderbay Flex 8 and library + cache are on a 2TB U.2 SSD in the same enclosure.
Best,
Matt

What I do is to select all files and make a Multicam of them all together. What you need to though is to add the camera angle metadata to the clips. I use ‘Cam A’ and so forth on the corresponding clips plus a ‘Audio’ in the same camera angle metadata field for the audio only clip(s). Then select all plus the audio and create the Multicam. If you have multiple clips for one angle FCP automatically arranges them together in one angle one after the other even if there is a gap.
I for instance can create a Multicam for one interview that was stopped and started again a couple of minutes later all into one Multicam for that person.
Now the little catch is that sometimes FCP just can’t get it right. Happens maybe in 1 out of 10. I haven’t yet figured out why. One theory is that it makes a diff in what order you select the clips that you want to make into a Multicam.
If FCP can’t get the right combination you can always add a clip manually to the Multicam. Just open it and drag the clip into the angle you want. Then use the Timecode HUD to adjust the position to match.
Key is really that you have to add the Camera angle metadata.
Hope that helps.
