Change all stereo clips to dual mono was created by realworldmedia
I am working on a project that uses many audio source files and I just discovered that a small number of them are stereo rather than dual mono as I need. How can I efficiently find and select the stereo audio clips so I can change them to dual mono?
I am, of course, also open to solutions that don't involve selecting the clips, if such a thing exists. (Can this be accomplished by editing the XML file?)

Select all audio clips in the browser. Change them to Dual Mono in the audio pane of the inspector.

Wouldn't that change each clip's audio configuration throughout the library?
I am looking for a solution that works on the project level.
Edit: turns out that doesn't work.
Apparently browser and timeline audio configuration are independent of one another. Even after changing - via the browser - a clip's audio configuration to dual mono, that same clip in the timeline can still be set to stereo, and will play as stereo, and changing a timeline clip's audio configuration does not change that clip's audio configuration in the browser.

You are correct that clips in browser and project are independent of each other for any setting applied. (They are not independent for the media used).
To change the settings for clip(s) already in the project: Open the timeline index. Search for the clip names you're after. Select them all at once or in any combination you like and change the audio setting via the inspector. The Inspector always shows the selected clip(s) regardless if they are in the browser or project.

That is correct. If you have already started a project you would select the clips as Carsten indicated.

My original question was "How can I efficiently find and select the stereo audio clips so I can change them to dual mono?" I'm guessing this means there is none?
In this case, I was dealing with many dozens of clips, a small minority of which were mono, and a handful of which were compound clips. Accidentally selecting even one of those clips along with a stereo clip instantly disables the ability to change clip audio properties.
I ended up mostly brute-forcing it, individually selecting each stereo clip in the index, but it would be great if there was a more efficient method for the future.
Anyone know if this can be accomplished by editing the project XML? It seems like that would be fairly straightforward, but I have never tried that approach before.

My workflow of many years includes changing all clips with audio to dual mono and also disabling audio on all clips where it’s not needed. This is done in the browser after import and before editing. I’ve been doing it so long I don’t give it a second thought but I believe the issue you are having is why I developed this workflow in the first place.

I'm trying to turn a stereo clip in the browser into dual mono, a task I have performed many times before. For some reason, the dual mono option does not appear under the mode dropdown. I have a screenshot but can find how to attach it here (even though I have done so before). Having a totally weird day I guess! Any help is appreciated.

Not sure which "mode" you're referring to...
(The screenshot would have helped.
)
With the Audio Inspector selected, under Pan there is a Mode pop-up menu. For mono tracks you'd choose None (or you could choose Stereo Left/Right).
Below, in the Audio Configuration section, is where you select "Mono"...
Hope this helps.

Dave, thanks for your reply. I finally realized that I was working on a compound clip, in which case the audio configuration section doesn't show. Duh!
