DJI and Kinfinity removing ProRes RAW
NewShooter speculates it’s the RED patent.

I wonder how this impacts the future of ProRes RAW

The RED patent is only for internal compressed RAW, and I think it states or implies compression ratios greater than 5:1. Although ProRes RAW compression is scene dependent, I think it is often greater than 5:1. So internal uncompressed RAW or low-compression RAW (e.g, < 3:1) would not be covered. The Kinefinity Mavo uses internal storage, so I don't see how that ever avoided the RED patent for ProRes RAW. Maybe they were thinking of using only ProRes RAW HQ and could skate by by virtue of less compression.
The DJI Inpire 2 drone camera clearly uses external storage, as the camera is physically separate, held by a gimbal, whereas the SSD is inside the airframe (see attached).
The DJI Ronin 4D uses an external SSD but the carrier is bonded to the side of the camera. See attached.
Blackmagic BRAW evades this since it is by definition not truly RAW. IOW it is debayered inside the camera.
So of the above cameras that shoot ProRes RAW, it would appear Kinefinity was always at risk of the RED patent, the Inspire 2 was never at risk, and the Ronin 4D might be a gray area, depending on legal interpretation.

What RED wants to license that particular patent (or maybe they want to keep it from other cameras and keep it all to themselves - insert maniacal laughter and hand wringing here) must be extortional or else other mfgs would pay it & then add the cost to the camera.
