FCPX Export and Roles was created by ringslinger
Not sure what I'm doing wrong here, but I think I need a little guidance.
I've got a 14 Track Master laid out as follows :
1 - 6 : 5.1
7 - 8 : LT/RT
9 - 10 : L Dia / R Dia
11 -12 : L SFX / R SFX
13 - 14 : L Music / R Music
So I'm working on a little clip and in the full mix there's a bit of music sting at the end so what I want to do is remove that but keep the diag and FX.
So in the timeline that's easy enough. Make the edit before the music sting and turn off all the tracks but 9 - 12.
So now I have 1 timeline with two edits. 1st part of the edit has only 7-8 turned on. The second half, tracks 9 through 12.
Sounds and looks great. So i setup my output. The standard I work with is a plain ProRes 422HQ with L/R mono. So two tracks.
In the export window I set up my roles.
Export > Roles
Audio Track 1 - 7, 9, 11, 13 (all the Right tracks)
Audio Track 2 - 8, 10, 12, 14 (all the Left tracks)
now what I get is the clip but after the edit no audio. Is that because no audio is on 7 and 8 in the edit so it blanks over the rest of the tracks?
I figured it would see that 7-8 are turned off and would just give me the mix of 9, 11, 13 and 10, 12 and 14 in the selected audio track.
Am I missing something?
Thanks and cheers to all.

If I understand it all you actually do not need to fiddle with Roles in the output dialogue. If you do not change anything FCP mixes all tracks to 2 stereo tracks. So the final file is exactly the same as you hear when you playback your timeline.
You need to Role setting only if you need to split the tracks into separate output files or want video clips with multitrack audio.

Yea. I'm specifically looking to export two separate audio tracks not one interleaved track.

Sorry yes I think I get it now
For this to work you have to set up your audio file correctly. If it is already in the timeline select it and open the inspector and go to the audio tab. Change the track config on the top right of the waveform displays from 14 mono to 1-6 5.1, and the rest as stereo pairs.
If you now export the timeline you get a correctly routed stereo-2track output file either with or without video depending on what you choose.
The clip track set up can be done as well in the browser before placing the clip in the timeline. Browser and timeline are 2 separate occurrences of the clip so the browser doesn't change after you changed only the timeline.
If you can't get the setup of your clip tracks as you want because FCP doesn't give you the right options the only way is to go through the 14 mono tracks and set them up one by one via the pan setting in the top part of the audio inspector. I haven't had your specific Audi config in an audio file so this is not out of my own experience but an educated guess
