I'm in dire need of assistance. I copied all my files and media. But FCP doesn't see my events or projects. I deleted the new library and made a new. I have no option to update my library. I looked on my old hard drive and can't find a library to copy over. Does anyone know how can fix this? Thanks for any help

There were no libraries pre-10.1. To update those projects and events folders to library structure you'd need access to a system with Sierra that can run FCPX 10.2.4 or earlier.

Thanks Tom. I can install Sierra on another drive. How do I get an older version of FCPX 10.2.4 or earlier? Then would I copy that new library folder to my new computer?

Once you get the Sierra system running the problem will be to get the right version. Sierra runs newer versions as well so that’s what you’ll get from the App Store. When you’re in Sierra these pages www.fcpbook.com/updates/101.html will get you started on the process of migrating from pre-10.1 to libraries. You can contact me then about the right software.

I just noticed that I have 10.10.5 running on a partitioned drive on this computer already. with FCP 10.1.4. Can I use that to create the new library file?

Yes it can. Look through the notes on the link I posted on the procedure and requirements to upgrade the projects and events to libraries.

Hello Tom, I ran the update events and projects option in FCP and my events show up. But no projects. How can. I resole this? I made a couple test projects and see that they are located at the top of the event. But my old projects aren't there

Did you follow the instructions exactly? Where the folders correctly named in the correct location? The application is looking for specific file paths and won’t find any others. It’s possible the project database has become corrupted.

The only thing I can see different is that I chose to locate since I know the only drive that they are located. I pulled the project folder out of the trash. Do you think I can run it again and choose update all?

Hello Tom, my events and projects are on the same drive. In two folders called Final Cut projects and Final cut events. I took another look at the link you sent. It seams to me that's what it said. But it talked out having events on multiple drives. I don't have that. So instead of clicking on update all. I hit the locate button. and selected that drive. Should I retry and select update all this time?

If they’re on an external drive those two folders Final City Projects and Final Cut Events have to be at the root level of the drive for the update to see them. If they’re on the system drive they have to be at the top level of the Movies folder.

Like the file might be corrupted. Check what’s inside. There should be a CurrentVersion.fcpproject files in any folders.

Hi Tom, I made a new library and ran it again. If I click on the updated library named after the hard drive its on, and click show package contents. Theres a folder in there called updated projects. Looks like they are all in there. I wonder if its a bug with FCP 10.1.4. Maybe it will fix itself in a newer version of FCP X. or do you know how I can get version 10.

Hello Tom, really appreciated your help. My projects and events are now on the new computer in the new library. My issue now. Is that my library is 1.71TB the same size as my final cut events folder. My final cut projects folder is 2.11TB. Does this mean it only moved the events folder into the library? Is it just linking to my projects folder? Can I set it to use a different drive for its render files?
Thanks again. I would have been lost with out you!

In the new library you should see the events as well as the projects. Check that you have everything. It's hard to tell just my looking at the numbers. The projects folder can hold the render files if I remember correctly and can take a lot of space and not be relevant to the projects going forward. Check the original projects folder and see what's in there and if the library has matching content.

Doing quick math. The render files and old version files in each of my projects folder totalled $2092.808TB so with the backups that would total the 2.11TB. Plus the new final cut is rendering in the background. So I'm all set now. Thanks for your help
