Accessing Ancient FCPX Project - PLEASE HELP was created by emf311
FCP VETERANS PLEASE HELPI’ve been trying to access/open old FCP edit files from before 10.3 was released. I feel like the original project files were done using a very early version of FCPX. But no matter what I do, or which version I try to use to open it(10.0.8, 10.1.4, 10.2.3) the files either are not recognized when I try to open/update them, or they open into a window full of text/code and nothing happens.I’m doing everything using a 2011 MacBook running El Capitan which I borrowed specifically for this purpose. All aforementioned FCP versions are installing just fine. It’s just the files that I cannot seem to access or open or update. Totally confounded. What can I do? What version do I need to go back to so I can access these files? I’m praying to the FCP Gods for some help. Thanks!

These aren’t Final Cut Studio FCP 7 files are they?
Early FCPX Projects and Events folders can be updated by 10.2.3 or earlier. The Projects and Events folders must either be in the Movies folder or at the root level of a secondary drive. They’re not recognized in any other location. The Upgrade function in the File menu of 10.1 - 10.2.3 will convert them to libraries.

Thanks so much for your reply Tom, really appreciate it. So what you're saying is that I'm just not choosing the files from the right location or the files are not in the right location? All of the files/prjects are stored across various drives in various folders labeled for each project. It's a mess, for sure. What can I do or where can I look / place the project files in to be able to update them - or rather, what is " root level of a secondary drive"?
Sorry for the ignorance on my end. And thanks again so much!
