Refreshing the sound search within the browser?

Often when I search for sounds in the Browser I get no results at all. Restarting Final Cut Pro is necessary and then it works again. Restting preferences does not affect this issue. Is there a way to get FCP to refresh and actually show the search results without having to restart it?

When you first open FCP and go to the audio browser and select Sound Effects, it can take a minute or two for FCP to read the libraries and list all of the contents. I can tell you are not waiting for that to happen fist, because if you look at the top right, "No Items" means the libraries are not loaded up yet.

Oh I'm waiting. That's why when I restart FCP I am able to get the "items". It only takes a few seconds... usually I have to enter something in the search field twice before it's completely loaded. No big deal. But eventually they will go away if I start working in a different Library or simply leave FCP open and running for days on end (which is normal for me). The last time I restarted FCP was when I created this thread and I was able to get the searchable items. FCP has been running since and my computer never puts the disks to sleep (only the display) and if I go there now and try to search it says NO ITEMS and the search no longer works.

It should not ever take FCP that long to load up the Sound Effects library. Something's not right.

My computers get rebooted daily, good hygiene.

That's probably why you don't see this issue. I'm too lazy to reboot so often.

Daily reboot is not "often" and not difficult. Two mouse clicks, well worth not having the issues you're reporting here.

It's often for me. I'm used to leaving my computer running for months at a time without a reboot. I understand Macs can't handle that and need to be rebooted every day. I'll start rebooting my iPhone every day as well. Apple stuff isn't built to be on that long.

Or I could just restart FCP because it gets weird after it's been running too long, regardless of the state of the computer. That literally always fixes it.

Side note, I was like you Redifer, and very rarely rebooted my iMac. Maybe a handful of times a year or If I knew a big storm was coming. One day it died completely and the recovery guys said it was the worst condition HDD they'd ever seen. All my work data was double backed up so no biggie there but I lost a lot of personal data.

Now I reboot daily!

It's not Macs or Apple products, it's any computer.

But then why would restarting just FCP and not the computer itself fix the problem I'm describing?

Rebooting the computer is better, but restarting an app clears its RAM and caches and such. All that stuff in RAM and in caches can get wonky over time. All apps do that. When I worked for software companies they all went out of their way to write routines that would do that while the app was running. These were majorly huge, corporate, industrial apps. And they had weekend reboot/maintenance routines that were automated.

I wonder if I could write a script that would reboot my computer every night at 1am before it runs the nightly backup at 2am?
