Documentary between Zimbabwe & Europe - from Premiere Pro 14.0.3 to FCPX 10.6.1

Hello to all,
I am currently working as the European producer of a 45m documentary made by a colleague in Zimbabwe. Due to Covid reasons (and also budget) we're not able to actually work together. The challenge is to get the material (all 1080P) from Zimbabwe to Europe and to continue the editing process together. We will put all the material (raw plus edits) on one hard disk and ship it. Now, my colleague is using Premiere Pro, I am using FCPX. Yes, I could learn Premiere but I am pretty sure I don't have the time to do so. Therefore, the idea is to use FCPX that I know very well.
My two questions to you guys as experts on the matter are these:
- what is your recommended way to do the migration of the edit from Premiere (my colleague is on Windows and uses Premiere Pro 14.0.3) to FCPX (on an Intel Mac, version 10.6.1)? I am aware of SendToX and bought it years back for a different purpose (import of old FCP7 libraries); however, I never used it with Premiere Pro, let alone between Windows and Mac. Is SendToX the BEST way to do it, what are the others?
- what are the dangers and possible problems that we might run into, and is there a way to prevent them? My Zimbabwean colleague could follow this advice before he ships the harddisk, therefore any advice here would be extremely precious help.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE!!!
Dirk

Send to X works pretty well for basic edit data, cuts etc between Premium and FCP. I use it regularly as my editors are in Premiere but I prefer FCP. Another alternative is to install Davinci, which does a good job of reading XMLs from both Premiere and FCP so you could use it as an intermediate step. No solution gives you a perfect translation, but between those two you'll get your edits across.

Hello and than you for this! I am getting that same advice about Resolve on another forum in Germany; the question is: why? Is that additional step making things BETTER? Or do both ways - SendToX, Resolve - have different risks and quirks and also different advantages?

Send to X has been pretty solid for me to be honest. But Resolve would be a back up plan if the translations don't work so well for your particular project. Anything like titles, adjustment layers and effects are not going to come across, but basic edits should work fine with send to x.

A quick check. I'm not sure of the version numbers on Windows, but that sounds like a very old version of Premiere Pro. The current Mac version is v22. So be sure to test, because other compatibility issues could arise.

Just to add: The best way is what works better
. Only way to find out is to try it. If you already have SendToX and you only need the free version for the conversion via Resolve, try both and see what works better, or preserves more info.
Devil is always in the detail as I just discovered with a conversion from Avid to FCP via AAF. If you're using a separate audio recording that has to be synced you might not be able to link to the synced clips inside FCP, meaning you get the timeline but have to replace every single shot.
Anyway best to just ask the Premiere guys to spit out a XML and try both SendToX and Resolve.
I totally support the basic advice: The less the Premiere sequence contains effects, nests, resizing etc the better. Hard cuts with clips that have embedded audio are the easiest to translate.
