I'm looking at what the options are for simple surround audio interfaces. It could be LCR or 5.1, but needs to work with M1 Macs and connect via TB3 or USB. It doesn't need a bunch of fancy input options, just the analog output to speakers or amps and volume control. Obviously it's got to work with FCP and Logic, but also others, like Resolve.
The intent is a desktop system for a cutting room. I've looked at a number of the options, like Apogee and Universal, and they all seem to either be very large systems designed for recording/mixing studios or are legacy systems that may or may not be compatible with correct OS versions and M1 Macs. There are plenty of simple audio i/o systems for stereo, but not so much for 5.1.
Suggestions? (Please be specific.) TIA.

The Audient ID22 interface has 6 analogue outputs that can be used for surround monitoring. Caveats: the headphone output needs to be used, and only 4 of the 6 channels have volume knobs (1&2 + headphones 5&6). I've run this exact setup with the outputs going to a mixer and on to powered 5.1 speakers. The mixer is strictly speaking not necessary, the speakers could be plugged into the ID22 directly. The mixer gives a lot more flexibility, though.
In theory you could use several smaller interfaces, say two 4 output ones, to create an aggregate device in Audio MIDI Setup and use that for surround output. As long as the interfaces are class compliant (preferably they should also have M1 compatible software) they should work with most any software. I only have experience with FCP and Logic, though.

Thanks. I can see how it would work, but it does seems like a bit of a kludge
Apogee used to have some but they appear to be in the legacy category.
