can no longer drag from Finder to project to import files

Hey folks, new guy in the forum here. I just switched from Premiere Pro to FCP a few weeks ago so I'm still learning stuff. Anyway at first I was able to drag files from Finder to the project window rather than going through the FCP import dialog but suddenly for some reason that no longer works. I can import through the FCP import dialog with no issues. Any thoughts as to what might cause this? I'm on an M1 mini with 16 gigs of RAM and version 10.6.1 - if I need to provide any more information just let me know and I'll be glad to do so.

This should normally work. What is it you’re dragging, from where exactly? It may be a a permission problem depending on where you’re dragging from.

I haven't even thought about that but I think you're onto something. I can drag from my internal drive to the project but not from my external. When it was working before I was working off my internal drive. What permissions could cause this? Thanks so much Tom!

Select the external drive and use Cmd-I for information. Check the permissions at the bottom of the column. Make sure it’s read/write for everybody, or ignore permissions.
