Overlay a slide at the top left corner? 23 Nov 2021 00:57 #117609

I know it's possible in FCP, but I wouldn't know what it's called. Attachment shows what I mean.

Is it bad practice to do other lanes or video tracks?

Place the "slide" on top of your video clip as a "Connected Clip".
Then in the inspector, resize and reposition the slide as needed.
Done.

This worked great. Thanks!

The only trouble I had was I had to do about 16 of these and it was tedious to edit the position and size for each one, even though they had the same specs. Maybe there was a way to save a preset of sorts?

Place them all where they need to be.
Re-size/position the first one.
Copy it.
Select all the rest at one time.
Paste Attributes.
Done.

Lol.

I’m pretty stupid aren’t I?

Is there a way to save attributes as a preset or some type?

Yes, you can. Prepare to feel worse.

Make all your adjustments to the original, add effects, etc, as you wish.
Bottom right of the Inspector, click the "Save Effects Preset" button.
Done.

Since I'm here anyway, maybe you can answer something related to this that I've been noodling since I finished that project...
On either size of the slide overlay, I used a basic cross-fade to fade the image into view. I had wondered if I could somehow puff it into place and then cross-fade out at the end. I didn't know what kind of effect I was looking for and when I tried a few things, it seemed to effect the clip under the slide which is something that looked weird and what I wasn't wanting to do. I attached anything I wanted to do by placing the transition on the slide clip itself rather than a connected clip. I didn't realize the latter was possible until I watched a YouTube video with a smoke series of transitions you could download and then use an add blending method.

Anyway, this is just a thinking exercise...

You'd have to build a custom transition in Motion to "puff into place".

Depending on how an Effect is build, it may or may not effect the clips below it.
