Audio effects requiring an analysis period create problems at cuts. Solution? was created by realworldmedia
One of the benefits of multicam is the ability to edit a project's underlying angles, and have those edits reflected in the multicam editor — while remaining specific to their angle. It makes perfect sense conceptually: the edit or effect is applied to the entire underlying clip, so it appears any time that clip shows up.
That concept doesn't mesh with reality when there are audio effects involved and those audio effects require an initial analysis period.
Today I applied a leveling effect to the clips underlying a multicam project, and every multicam cut is either too loud or too quiet at the cut point. It is apparent that the effect is being activated on the multicam editor level (at each edit point) and not on the underlying clip level (which would be once, at the beginning of the clip that has the effect).
This isn't just a multicam problem, either. I believe it holds true with compound clips and audio effects as well.
I have never successfully figured this out, keeping everything in FCPX. I can and often do process the audio in RX and then bring it back to FCPX, but that's not an ideal solution. Ideal would be for it to just work, but I would happily accept, for example, having to render the angles. As far as I know, that is not possible.
Is there any way, within FCPX, to 'finalize' an audio effect such that subsequent cuts to the track don't activate the effect anew?

Apply them in the Angle Editor? And as for being too loud or too quiet only at edit points, I've never seen that behavior, and I do lots of multicam editing. Also, what is this "initial analysis period" you're talking about? Ar you analyzing and using the built-in "auto correction" tools? I rarely touch those.
Although I do wish FCP had much better audio sweetening workflow and tools.

I'm not seeing how that would solve the problem. So we're talking about the same thing, let's say the effect in question is FCPX's built-in noise reduction. When you first start playing a clip that has noise reduction applied, the noise is still present. Only after a few seconds of learning - an analysis period - is the noise reduction active and in full-effect.
In the angle editor, it's not unusual to have hundreds of cuts between angles. FCPX treats the sections between cuts as clips that you can apply effects to, as you suggest, but that is essentially the same problem. At the start of every one of those 'new clips' (read: at every angle change) the noise reduction effect starts over again from zero, requiring a few seconds to stabilize, with the noise still present.
The natural solution should be "Okay, so apply noise reduction to the underlying angles." But that doesn't work either. Which is the reason for my post.
Is your experience with FCPX different? Maybe I'm just doing something wrong. (That would be welcome news.)

Once the analysis is done, that's it, the effect is applied. Even cutting it up in the Timeline for an edit, I don't experience what you are. Then again, I use a third party noise reduction, as I think the one built-in to FCP is much to weak to help when I do need it. But I did a test and didn't experience what you are experiencing. Very curious.

Weird, though I’m glad there’s potentially a light at the end of the tunnel.
My go-to audio effects are the iZotope RX suite. Until recently, RX8, as of a few weeks ago RX9. Which do you use?
