Working on same FCP Libraries/Projects in mixed Intel & Silicon environment?

I'm on the verge of ordering the 16" Macbook Pro Max and I have a job coming up where the production is still running Intel iMacs so my questions concern working in a shared Intel - Silicon environment:

1) Will I be able to open FCP libraries created on the Intels, edit them and re-save them in a format/version that the Intels will be able to continue to open and work on? I've heard there are some serious plugin issues, so are there any plugins that are universal?

2) Will I be able to run the same version of FCP that they are running on the Intels? For example 10.4?. Will it run under Rosetta on the M1 and if it does, will the performance hit be crippling?

I realize that this is all pretty new territory and there will be a lot of workflow issues to work out in a collaborative environment but I'd really appreciate some light before I pull the trigger on the purchase.

Thanks.

1) Yes on sharing libraries. They're universal. Plugins at a minimum will need to be reinstalled, perhaps not all will work.

2) To date 10.4.10 and later have run on Monterey. Nothing earlier. That can change at any time. Currently the shipping M1s have Monterey 12.0 or 12.0.1 installed.

Thanks for your quick reply!

Does this mean that if I am running the silicon native version of 10.6 and they are running 10.4.1 they will still be able to open the libraries that I have modified? I seem to recall that Final Cut would ask to update the libraries which would then make them impossible to open on the lower version, but I could be wrong, it's been a while. If my memory is working, then I can't recall if there was an option that allowed not updating while working in a higher version...

Ideally of course, I'd like to work using the full power of the new M1 chip on an optimized version of Final Cut Pro and be able to swap the libraries with the other team members working on the Intel stations. Is this easily doable?

Absolutely not. The libraries are compatible across platforms but not across older versions of the application. If you’re both working in 10.6 you can move libraries from M1 to Intel and back again. The oldest version you both can use is 10.4.10.

Thanks for clearing that up. That's what I thought... Do you have any idea of what the performance would be like running the non-native older version on the M1 Max? Are there any issues I should be aware of? We've been using FCP X on Intel systems for broadcast on Discovery and Netflix for ages so the transition to silicon is going to be a bit slow and arduous for sure.

Thanks again

An older version of the application? At the moment substantially better than the latest release, which has significant problems across the board and is proving unusable for many users.

Oh, that doesn't sound good! Hopefully Apple will get cracking and fix what needs to be fixed, and maybe add some proper audio mixing tools at the same... This production has held out this long but it is seriously tilting toward Premiere, shame cause I personally enjoy working on FCP more...
