Hmmm.. I wonder if that's a dig at FCP X/Apple or just a reflection that they
spread their net wider with other Apps/manufacturers?

As the founder and owner of an FCPUG here in Louisiana, some groups are changing to become agnostic NLE user groups as a knee jerk reaction to FCP X. Some of us aren't, and are surviving just fine, our numbers are good, our sponsorships have actually expanded.

What makes that a "knee jerk" reaction?

Because in reality these decisions were made within the first month of FCP X being released. Not just this week.

But, not our business. They do what they want. My FCPUG is just fine, we're better than ever.

But if some huge holier than thou FCPUG decides they can't keep up with the "FCP" part, like some little town like we can, well, I'm sorry the big boys can't keep up with us bigger boys.

Funny & I like it!
In fact we would like to start a FCPUG because of FCPX more help and info needed here I think...
Just getting our heads wrapped adoring the hole forum part. I know the server has PHP and the goodies but getting some to work on it is the tuff part. :(

Michael says the name change is not a reaction to FCPX. In fact, he really likes the software a lot. It's more a reaction to the past several years as the LAFCPUG has had presentations by Adobe, by Avid, etc. He would like the group to embrace all NLE because (and I loosely quote him) "it's not about the tools, it's about the editor." Which is very true.

I am not sure what other markets are like, but in Los Angeles, it's very competitive and the editor with the skills on any NLE and with a fundamental knowledge of not only the software, but how to tell a story; those are the ones that get the work. Here it's better to know a little about each and there is a LOT of work. I'm a member of the LAFCPUG (I guess now the CPUG) and even though I think the name changes, I think FCPX will still be a focus for some time to come.

Scrubelicious, an FCPUG isn't necessarily about an online forum. Most don't have online forums. It's about monthly meetings, networking, mutual support, etc. If you want to start one locally, email me off board and I'll give you the scoop.

BenB, yes we dare of that and we have been doing no monthly but quarterly meetings.
But we still like to have a site to build out the crowd in the local area. Its really just idea at the moment.

OK, you said you wish you had an FCPUG, now you say you actually already have one. I'm confused.

No no never wish for one, we would like to start one and have it be official... right now we "some" of the local FCP users meet every couple to three months buts not really a meeting in term.
But like I said aware what FCPUG is just certain things are required right? Not sure how that confused you. :silly:
Already send you mail... guess you didn't get that.

Cheers
