Hey all,

I've been scouring the earth for this one video of the Ripple Training guys talking about doing some editing tricks. The video mentioned the playhead ball in passing and how to get the ball to move to different clips that are stacked on top of each other. In the video, Steve was editing a short film of him having dinner (I think it was with is wife), having wine etc. I think there was footage of Steve as a spartan in it also.

For some reason, my memory is telling me that it was him doing a training session, maybe at a conference or a show of some sort, but it was definitely Steve and Mark presenting the demo.

The reason why I ask is because I'd like to know how to move ball between stacked clips on the playhead, and also see all the other tricks in it as well.

Does anyone know where on Youtube I can find this? I think I've finally stumped the Google gods on this one.

I don't think you can actually make the active clip indicator ball move. It gets assigned the top-most clip in a stack automatically, and can't be changed. It shows what clip gets affected if you do something without specifying a clip. Never seen anything anywhere indicating that can be changed.

You can select a clip below the top one on a stack and the ball disappears. But you can't make the ball appear on anything but the top-most clip. If you can, I'd like to know what that short-cut is. You can change which clip in a stack is selected using the up and down arrow keys with the Cmd modifier key. But that's not changing where the ball appears.

Haven’t seen the video but when you disable a clip (press v on keyboard when the ‘ball’ is on it) then the next enabled clip below will be auto selected by the ‘ball’. You can also disable clips by deselecting the role it is part of via the timeline inspector. I do this sometimes with titles when I want to auto select (the ‘ball’) the clip below for colour corrections.
Don’t know any other way to auto select other clips below the topmost.
