yesterday, downloaded FCP new version 10.6. On initial open, i needed to Duplicate an existing project. NO GO. The option was grayed out. Selected another project. that one allowed Duplicate. i selected it. the spinning wheel of death. i had to force quit FCP to escape. when i came back in, the Duplicate function in the dropdown on the original project i wanted to duplicate was allowed. tried it again. same spinning wheel of death. the final time I opened FCP, i used the Snapshot Project option and it worked. is this an issue with the new version?

I'm not seeing that, but would be interesting if others are.

Did you trash FCP preferences before the first time launching 10.6? If not, I'm guessing that may be the issue. Launch fcp while holding Option and Command - select to clear preferences. See if that fixes the issue.

Yes I've been having this bug too - Duplicate project just doesn't duplicate anything. I've ended up duplicating compound clips instead or using snapshots to back projects up. It seems to be the case that this bug happened at the same time the Waveform bug appeared. I'm finding FCP just a total pain at the moment - apple please release a bug fix soon.

Glad that worked for you. This should be done every time you download a new FCP update when you first launch the application. It usually solves many of the odd issues I see being reported on this forum.

"Rebuild preferences" sounds so quaint! I remember seeing that happen on lots of programs in the 90s. And it didn't work for me, unfortunately. Trying another way.

I had a similar problem. A fairly complicated project would not duplicate. What I did to solve it (after trashing prefs) was to locate the project in the library by opening the library, duplicating it there, and then reopening FCPX. The new copy worked fine and I was able to continue working, even making a new duplicate of the one I made.
