I am using FCP and an iMac and need to convert a linear sound track to digital. When my present linear track is placed on the timeline it defaults to image and not to the sound track area. How do I convert this track to digital?
Thanks for your assistance.
Thanks for your response Tom.
I should have used the term 'analog'. I was given an analog track that was recorded on a Sony camera to be used in a video that I am editing. This track defaults to the 'image' area of the timeline and will not reside on the audio part of the timeline. Therefore, I cannot equalize the track.
Please post a screenshot. We need to see what you're seeing. What camera recorded this? How did you get the media into FCP? Analog camera media needs to be digitized to bring into FCP. That process would digitize the audio. Please show us what you're seeing.
Maybe there's some confusion. To start with, if the audio track is part of a camera file, not a videotape, then it is digital. Because you are bringing in a camera file, this is not audio only. The file will be interleaved picture and sound. So place it on the timeline. Then select the clip and choose to detach the audio. This will make the audio portion of the file a connected clip and you can remove the picture portion of that file from the timeline.
