Not able to capture audio when capturing MiniDV Tapes

So i've got some MiniDV tapes i recorded with a Canon XH G1. And they play back on the Canon just fine, audio and everything. But when I connect a Firewire DV to Firewire 800 cable from the camera to my macbook pro, and i go to capture the tape, there's no audio in FCP. i've tried doing it in an old CS6 version of Premiere that i have and it captures audio just fine. But Premiere keeps stopping the recording everytime a frame drops i guess because it won't just keep capturing.

So i've got two issues with two editing programs. I'd prefer to capture in FCP since i'm editing in that, but not sure how to get the audio. any suggestions?

Try capturing in iMovie then pull the ingested files into FCP. (I vaguely remembering a similar problem and that's how I solved it.)
